Okay guys so I've been waiting for this day all year.
I'm going to cry tears of joy holy heck this is my f a v o r i t e g e n r e.
Guys...
I get to talk about mystery this is impoRTANT I LOVE THIS ???
okay
rubs hands together
so first of all...
I'm super biased because as you can tell, I really love the mystery genre. A lot. Any book having to do with detectives, horror, or lawyers is 100% my kind of book. Let's talk about what I've learned from those articles I just read on Mr. Craddock's blog post, though.
So, there are a bunch of subgenres when it comes to mystery. Of course, this means that there are various types of mystery novels, which makes the genre a bit more diverse (which is good. diversity in books is good). I also learned a bit about the origins of this genre, and how it was actually Edgar Allan Poe (I'm biased when it comes to Poe too because his writing is great haha) who created the mystery genre to begin with. That, and Arthur Conan Doyle cemented the genre's position in literature with Sherlock Holmes (even more bias here whoops). Anyway, uh, yeah. That's what I learned today, so let's just move on to the more extreme bias.
Well first things first, I've always been interested in reading about things like crimes and solving mysteries. It's always been so intriguing to me, especially when the detective trying to solve the mystery (coughs, Sherlock Holmes) is a really good hecking detective that's also pretty logical. I love thinking about things like how the human mind works, so the fact that books like these do include some psychological elements (i.e mentally putting yourself in the criminal's position to try and solve a crime) makes everything 10 times more appealing to me. I can't really explain all the reasons why I love the mystery genre, though, but just trust me when I say I love it a whole lot. Detectives are the coolest man,,, and if you add lawyers into a mystery story ?? that's ?? beautiful ?? As for things I dislike about the genre, um,,, pfft, nothing. My bias is just that much that I can't even think of any flaws. Maybe if there's a mystery novel that's not very detailed and well thought out, I won't like that. But that's more so the story itself rather than the genre.
As for tropes, I guess I can think of a few right now. Murders, obviously. A really smart protagonist (you've gotta be smart to be a detective amiright), and maybe like,, rich people lol. Not so sure if the last one is that accurate, but hey, it works.
But, anyway, that's the end of this super biased post. The moral of this post is ya'll should love mystery,, because,, it's great,,
okay bye
